Basic Handcuffing

Handcuffs are the most often used tool used by officers, yet training is often overlooked or not addressed. Studies indicate that a great number of individuals resist arrest/detention. All too often the result is injury to the officer or the subject. This course focuses on subject control, handcuffing and searching. Also addressed is equipment placement and familiarity.

This course is focused from an officer's point of view and addresses the training need in defensive tactics. Topics include nomenclature, guidelines, handcuffing the resistive, non-resistive and aggressive subject, handcuffing from the standing, kneeling and prone positions, removing handcuffs and the use of contact/cover officers.

The benefits to this training program are a reduction in officer/subject injury, reduced exposure to civil/criminal liability, reduced workers compensation claims and an increase in officer safety.
